Ajax To Ajax Ride
Three close friends of mine madly decided to cycle about 430 miles in just five-and-a-half days to try and raise money for me and my family. The ride took them from Central Ajax Football Club in Warwick, through France and Belgium, and onto Ajax Amsterdam Football Club in the Netherlands.
We all played for Central Ajax as lads, and later coached the club’s U18 side together, so involving the local club and the famous one of the same name was the perfect challenge for them.
The lads – Sam, Joe and Matt – were insistent that they do something to raise money for us, and it has undoubtably helped ease the financial burden a cancer diagnosis can bring. All money raised will go towards my treatment or associated costs of my treatment – and any money left over will go towards cancer charities that have helped us along the way. Incredibly, more than £15,000 has been raised for which I’m so grateful.
It’s a brilliant idea and one that I hope can be expanded in future years to help cancer charities or other causes close to our hearts. I’d even love to do it myself one day!
We’ve had some great coverage in the local papers. We were on the front page of the Stratford Herald’s midweek edition, on page four of the Leamington Observer, and page 22 of the Leamington Courier’s Good Friday edition. A massive thank you to all – and to Advent Communications for allowing us to use their PR services free of charge. It’s incredible how generous people can be!
